Rio De La Plata

Right, I mentioned the river plate earlier on, well here it is in all its glory

Visible from space due to its rich brown colour (which is caused by sediment as its not affected by tidal currents), its apparently the widest river in the world. Unfortunately the photo is sort of upside-down, but that little greyish smudge at the bottom right point of the river is Buenos Aires, the even smaller one right above it is La Plata. At the top right of the photo is the coastal resort of Mar Del Plata.

Across the other side at the mouth of the river in Uruguay lies Punta Del Este (point of the east), with Colonia further upstream under that cloud.

I've been told that if you go down (or up in this photo) the coast to the mouth of the river you can see a straight line in the water separating the brown river from the ocean ...

disclaimer - I didn't take this photo, I just found it and thought it looked cool

Yes, *very* cool. I live near the river, so I know it's brown... but in this pic it looks orange!
